When I decided to start my online business I had so many doubts, a lot of fears and insecurities, I doubted of every step, small or big… everything was so new and being successful was crucial for me, that I felt overwhelmed sometimes.
I wanted to spend more time with my family, be there for my kids and the fear of failure was always stalking in my head.
So, I decided back then that It was really important to work on my self-esteem and self-confidence to overcome the uncertainty and be braver.
I learned (the hard way) that the fear of failure can paralyze you…
One day, I told myself: “If I want to rock it I must be brave“, no fearless, but brave and move ahead with a bulletproof self-confidence.
There isn’t such thing as being fearless, it’s normal to have fear sometimes, but you always can choose to be BRAVE, my new favorite word.
I also realized that if I didn’t train this ability, no matter how good I was regarding businesses…I will not succeed, because I wasn’t going to be able to flow and make decisions and strong moves.Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand brake on ─Maxwell Maltz Click To Tweet
Despite all these doubts and insecurities I had something unbreakable: I believe in myself, so this was going to be my asset. I was ready to stand up after every punch and as Babe Ruth used to say: You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.
You must look what your asset is going to be.
One thing that really helped me, and I’m sure is going to make the same for you, was putting a name to each one of those fears, identified them.
I figured out that If I see it as a whole, the stress was going to be near to impossible to handle, so I classified every one of those fears and then find the solution for each one of them, one by one.

For example: let’s drive this to a business scenario and say for example that I read everywhere that growing my email list is key to grow my business, but I don’t know anything about email lists.
I think on all the small milestones that I have to achieve to master this specific point, for example:
- What is an email list?
- What is email marketing?
- Why do I need an email list?
- What are the strategies to grow an email list?
- Who are the email marketing providers?
- What is opt-in?
Name your fears / obstacles / doubt / unknown activities / impostor syndrome, divide it into small milestones and conquer it.
It may sound obvious, but this 3-steps method is so powerful. I can almost guarantee your self-confidence will grow up to the roof as long as you move forward with your list.Building a successful business requires a thick skin and an extremely resilience Click To Tweet
I want to share with you one of my favorites videos about believing in yourself. When you feel down, remember you that you can do it! disconnect from everything and feel it.
There is a guy called Jia Jiang, he has become famous after the: 100 days of rejection challenge.
He was purposefully making crazy requests to people in order to be rejected over 100 days…What????….Yes 🙂
His purpose was to desensitize himself to rejection after he became more upset than he expected over rejection from a potential investor.
Jia Jiang wrote an amazing book called “Rejection Proof” a fun and thoughtful examination of how to overcome fear and dare to live more boldly.
There are two more books I loved about believing in yourself that I want to share with you:
- You are a Badass by Jeff Sincero. By the end of You Are a Badass, you’ll understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can’t change, how to change what you don’t love, and how to use The Force to kick some serious ass.
- Throw Like a Girl: How to Dream Big & Believe in Yourself by Jennie Finch. A smart, credible, and accomplished voice from an athlete who is strong and feminine, fiercely competitive, and fashionably cool, Jennie is someone young women will listen to and take to heart. Jennie’s message: Believe in yourself. Go for it, girls.
